  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp brewed espresso or strong coffee
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Coffee Frosting
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp brewed coffee or espresso
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Topping
  • ¼ cup chocolate chips

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  4. Add eggs, vanilla, milk, and brewed coffee. Mix well.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until combined.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes.
  7. Let cake cool completely.

  9. Beat butter until creamy.
  10. Add powdered sugar, brewed coffee, and vanilla.
  11. Beat until smooth and fluffy.
  12. Assemble

Notes

For stronger coffee flavor, replace milk with brewed coffee in the cake batter.
